Nerves may be trapped in the body at various places. Pain down the back of the leg (sciatica) can often be an accompanying symptom of low back pain for example. Nerves may be trapped for a number of reasons including: tight muscles, disc injuries, joint problems. Symptoms can include pain, pins and needles, numbness, sharp burning pain, loss/change of sensation, muscle weakness or wasting.

The nerve pain can feel like and electric shock running along the length of the nerve, or a hot/burning needle-like pain

Nerve entrapment typically can affect the legs, and arms (often accompanied by neck pain), but can also affect the chest where the intercostal nerve (between the ribs) can be affected.

These are some of the conditions that Osteopathy can help with:

  • Cervical rib
  • Carpel tunnel syndrome
  • Disc injury (back or neck)
  • Femoral nerve entrapment (pain down the front of the thigh)
  • Radial nerve pain (pain in the arm)
  • Sciatica (pain down the back of the leg into the foot)
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Ulnar nerve entrapment (pain on the inside of the arm and the little fingers)
