Dedicated Bodycare Clinic - Treating Animals
Injuries to Animals...........................'' You treat Animals........??''
Yes! Dogs, cats, and horses mostly.
Treating animals is essentially the same thought process as treating humans, just the anatomy is different and obviously a horse does not lay down on the couch at K2!
When looking at an animal you have 4 legs instead of 2 legs and 2 arms. The counter balance between the limbs (hips and shoulders swaying in opposite directions as we walk) is quite different between the species. In horses specifically the rear end is the engine and the front end holds the horse up, the head is a counter balance. This means that horses can tend to get more compression injuries at the front end and more strain type injuries at the back end. Correct fitting saddles and hoof care is also an essential part of joint, muscle, ligament and tendon care in a horse.
Dogs and cats are quite different in the way they move and the injuries they get. Cats suffer more from falls and trauma injuries. Dogs can have breed-specific problems such as hip and back problems. We also help some agility dogs, as with any athlete they can suffer from various sprains and strains!
The great thing about animals is that they are generally quicker to treat than humans.
Steve Palmer completed a year long equine and small animal course in 2000.
Amongst other things, we may be able to help with following:
- Pain, limb neck back shoulders and hips
- Injuries, again as above but the cause is more obvious to the owner
- Arthritis, or specific breed problems as discussed above
- Post-Operative rehabilitation, again the same essentially as humans
We advise that you seek advice from your vet before proceeding with treatment. Please call if you would like to discuss any problems your animal may have.
