Professional solutions for painful problems

Advice on what to do if you have hurt your back.

Bodycare Clinic is about helping you............ so below is some free advice for those of you that have BACK pain right now. Marathon runner

  1. Most back pain will go away in a few days, do not worry it happens to most of us at some point.
  2. Keep as active as possible, but not so the pain increases. Rest regularly and for short periods.
  3. You can take a combination of pain killers such as paracetamol AND an anti-inflamatory drug such as ibuprofen. Check with your Pharmacist/GP though! Do NOT take Anti-Inflamatory drugs if you have a stomach condition or allergy to them. Check First!
  4. HOT/COLD? If the pain is less than 24 hrs a cold compress may help. More than 24 Hrs the heat is usually the best thing. Muscular pain which is aching in nature is usually relieved by heat. If this makes you worse STOP & seek professional Advice. For a joint (such as the knee) use ice for the first 24-36 hrs to decrease the inflammation, rest and elevate the joint.
  5. Stretching can help. Pull your knees to your chest when lying on your back.hold for a count of 10.Stop if it hurts!
  6. If you have pain in your leg or numbness seek advice ASAP.
  7. If you have numbness in or around your bottom seek advice ASAP.
  8. If you have acute pain, are worried or feel unwell Seek advice ASAP.

Osteopathy - not just for back pain!

Most people think that Osteopathic treatment is only for back pain. While Osteopathy is an excellent choice of treatment if you suffer from back pain, we can also help with many other conditions, such as: sports injuries, frozen shoulders, whip lash injuries, headaches and all myofascial problems (the team practice myofascial release, which is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat muscular pain and restriction of motion).

Manipulation, Cranial Osteopathy and Sports Therapy

We also practice manipulation and cranial Osteopathy as part of our sports therapy and for treating mothers-to-be, children and babies. The Bodycare Osteopaths also run a number of specialist clinics to help with: rehabilitation, arthritis, pregnancy, occupational injuries, sports injuries and, indeed, back pain. Several of the Bodycare Osteopaths either previously trained as sports therapists or have worked specifically with sports injuries.

Steve spent 5 years working with physiotherapists as part of team providing Osteopathy and Physiotherapy in an NHS environment. Through this experience, and having been on a number of courses run by physiotherapists, he is able to offer an excellent alternative to physiotherapy.

All the Bodycare Osteopaths are professionally trained and registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). The GOsC is the statutory body that provides the code of conduct and ethics to which all osteopaths must adhere.
